Strategy in Action Case Competition

The Graduate Management Consulting Association at the University of Toronto-Mississauga (GMCA-UTM) is proudly hosting the Strategy in Action Case Competition in partnership with the Master of Management of Innovation (MMI) program. Participants will get an opportunity to network with management consultants and industry professionals from top firms. Prizes will be awarded including a grand prize of $500! We are also pleased to announce Pierre Desrochers, Director of Institute for Management and Innovation (IMI), as our keynote speaker. Please see details below.



Monday, February 27- Friday, March 3

Monday Noon: Case released via e-mail

Monday Evening: Introduction to the case competition and Q&A session (you can join virtually or in person)

Friday Afternoon: Keynote Speaker, First Round, Final Round (Lunch and snacks will be provided.)

Friday Evening: Networking session with consultants, industry professionals and professors at the Erin Mills Pump (Dinner and a celebratory drink will be provided.)



First Place: $500

Finalists: $50 each



To participate in the case competition, you must be in the 3rd or 4th year of undergraduate studies or pursuing a graduate degree. A maximum of one (1) MBA student per team is allowed. Students from all Canadian universities are eligible.

If you are interested, please apply as a team of four (4) by submitting one-page resumes for all team members and filling out the 2017 Strategy in Action Case Competition Application before the deadline. Selected teams will receive an acceptance letter and ticket payment invitation of $40 per team payable prior to the competition.

UCG 2017 Winter Consulting Engagement

Dear GMCA Member,

The University Consulting Group (UCG) is recruiting for the 2017 Winter Term Engagement. The student-run pro bono consulting group serves as a platform for students with different backgrounds to gain experience in solving real life challenges, while providing non-profit organizations access to quality professional advisory services.

Students from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Selected students will serve as consultants for a 10-week project during the winter term and will be placed on teams supporting non-profit organizations. There will be training and support from industry professionals throughout the engagement project.

The projects will begin on January 28th and will conclude on April 15th. Typically, every member is expected to dedicate 5-10 hours per week for the duration of the engagement.

GMCA McMaster’s Mini-MBA

Mini-MBA in 5 weeks!

The McMaster chapter of the Graduate Management Consulting Association (GMCA) proudly presents for the fourth consecutive year, the Mini-MBA series.

The event is open to all graduate students and post-doctoral fellows (priority will be given to graduate students). The sessions will be held every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:30pm to 9:00pm on campus. World class faculty members from the De Groote School of Business will led sessions on Business fundamentals and real-world management problems.

The admission is limited to 60 participants (the course fills up quickly). For a minimal fee of $50 (includes a copy of 10 day MBA, snacks all days and lunch on the last day) ($50 until Jan 31st, the cost increases by $25 Feb 1 onwards), you can gain access to an exclusive group of experts and applied management knowledge.

GMCA Consulting Resume Workshop Series

Dear GMCA Member,

We are excited to announce the GMCA Consulting Resume Workshop Series. This series consists of two parts, a resume writing lecture and a resume editing tutorial.

The resume writing lecture will take place on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at Sidney Smith Hall, Room 2125. The lecture will cover the components of a consulting style resume and tips on converting your CV into a resume.

The resume editing tutorial will be in the following 1-2 weeks. Small groups of 4-6 people will have their resumes reviewed by experienced tutors. Space is limited. Preference will be given to those who attend the first part of the series.
