2018-2019 Executive Committee Positions

The GMCA is calling all graduate students and advanced degree trainees to be part of the 2018-2019 Executive Committee. For those who are considering a career in consulting, this is an amazing opportunity to build on your experiences and gain access to resources and networks within the GMCA community. In fact, the vast majority of past GMCA executives have since transitioned into some of the top consulting firms.

Beyond the duties listed below, each executive member will have the option to become a project manager and lead one of GMCA’s celebrated events. This is a great opportunity to sharpen your project management and leadership skills while working with a highly efficient team in a professional environment.

We welcome all highly motivated and committed individuals to join our team. Each executive member is expected to serve for one academic year. The average time commitment will be 3-4 hours per week.

The election will take place on Monday, June 18th, 2018, 6-8pm, at Bahen Centre, Room 1230 (40 St. George Street). Each candidate will give a maximum 90 seconds speech on why you want to run for the position and initiatives you would champion if elected.

 

2018-2019 Executive Committee Positions:

Director of Professional Relations (2 positions available)

Role Description: The key responsibility is to act as a liaison between the GMCA and management consultancies. Ideal candidates should demonstrate excellent professional communication skills and preferably have established a strong professional network.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and update the annual consultancy sponsorship package with the Vice President.
  • Update GMCA’s professional contact database throughout the year.
  • Look for collaborative opportunities with consulting firms and ensure the successful execution of such collaborative events.
  • Establish and maintain GMCA alumni program.
Director of Event Management (2 positions available)

Role Description: The key responsibility is to ensure the smooth operation of all GMCA events and Executive Council meetings. Ideal candidates should demonstrate strong proficiency in event planning and professional communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with all the Executive Committee members to plan GMCA event  logistics, including venue, catering and scheduling.
  • Organize GMCA Executive Council meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Work closely with Director of Finance to secure with event sponsors
Director of Education (1 position available)

Role Description: The key responsibility is to ensure professional quality of all GMCA educational and training programs. Ideal candidates should provide distinguishable vision on educational goals of GMCA events.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with all the Executive Committee members to develop and optimize new educational curriculum, workshop themes, and resources that are solely available to GMCA members.
  • Manage the internal educational resource library of GMCA and distribute case of the week to GMCA members
  • Select and develop business case activities for GMCA events that are acceptable to the industry
  • Work closely with the Vice President to select appropriate members to events including resume screening and interviewing.
Director of Brand Management (1 position available)

Role Description: The major responsibility is to build and promote GMCA brand awareness and values through social networks. Ideal candidates should demonstrate social network account management, graphic design, and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with all the Executive Committee members to create and adapt content and website advertisements for each specific social media platform (ie. Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) in order to promote the GMCA and its Upcoming Events.
  • Develop and maintain graphic design style to support GMCA advertisements throughout the year.
  • Manage GMCA social media accounts, create posts and interact with firms and individuals on behalf of GMCA.
Director of Campus Relations (1 position available)

Role Description: The major responsibility is to build and promote GMCA brand awareness and values among the University of Toronto departments and organizations. Ideal candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills. Familiarity with SGS, U of T graduate programs, on-campus student associations and career services is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Director of Brand Management to create and manage promotions and advertisement campaigns for upcoming events.
  • Manage and expand the graduate department contact list to reach potential members and deliver promotional materials.
  • Develop initiatives to increase awareness of GMCA and management consulting among the graduate and professional degree student community.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with unions and governing bodies within the School of Graduate Study community.
Director of Member Relations (2 positions available)

Role Description: The major responsibility is to enhance internal communications and to act as the face of the GMCA Executive Council with its membership. Ideal candidates should demonstrate strong communication and writing skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Director of Information Technology to develop feedback surveys, maintain membership database and manage event registration for all GMCA events.
  • Compose and distribute emails to membership about information and promotions for Upcoming Events, as well as other news items and releases.
  • Manage GMCA info email account and respond to membership email inquiries within 48 hours.
Director of Finance (1 position available)

Role Description: The major responsibility is to oversee all financial activities to ensure financial stability of the GMCA. Ideal candidates should be familiar with funding resources and demonstrate bookkeeping ability.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce an annual budget at the start of the fiscal year.
  • Secure funding and sponsorships to provide financial support for GMCA operations.
  • Work closely with all Executive Committee members to ensure all GMCA events are organized within the budget.
  • Maintain and update an accounting ledger of all receipts and dates of all financial interactions, including debits, credits, cheques, and remaining bank balance.
Director of Business Development (1 position available)

Role Description: The major responsibility is to oversee growth and expansion of the GMCA by locating, developing and negotiating relationships and partnerships in line with GMCA values. Ideal candidates should demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with all Executive Committee members to provide support and oversight for all GMCA Canada chapters with regard to the establishment of new chapters, needs related to event planning, and other projects.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to create and maintain partnerships between all GMCA Canada chapters.
  • Attend industry and campus functions, such as management consultancy events, and provide the Executive Council with feedback and information on trends and outcomes.
