What’s Consulting? is a two-part panel series introducing graduate students to consulting. Held over two days, Part 1: Pros of Pro-Bono Consulting – features consultants and industry professionals from pro-bono consulting firms. Part 2: The Journey to Consulting – features consultants from top consulting firms, McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Deloitte Digital Care, and L.E.K.
Through these two events, attendees will learn how they can leverage their graduate school experience to transition into consulting, as well identify pro-bono consulting opportunities that can help them land the job.
Please note by registering you are confirming a spot at both panel discussions. Participants are strongly recommended to attend both events to get the full experience.
Part 1: Pros of Pro-Bono Consulting
Explore pro-bono consulting opportunities available for graduate students and hear panelists discuss how pro-bono consulting experience can be leveraged when applying for consulting roles. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A panel discussion with representatives from pro-bono consulting groups: UCG, UTCA and 180 Degrees Consulting.
Yisen Wang is a 4th year industrial engineering student with a minor in Business at the University of Toronto. Yisen has held various co-op/internship positions including: a Global Portfolio Plannning Analyst at General Motors (Summer 2021) and a Business Data Analyst position at RBC (12-month Co-op). Yisen values collaborating with other intelligent minds to solve actual business problems and believes being a member of UTCA pro-bono consulting group has truly enabled this passion.
Meng serves as the Chief Administrative Officer of the University Consulting Group (UCG). She has been involved in the UCG community since 2017 in numerous capacity including consultant, team lead and Hub executive. Professionally, Meng works in the NYC office of Putnam Associates.
Sean Xie is currently completing his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. HIs pro-bono consulting engagements have focused on providing consultancy services for social media enterprises in Canada and worldwide. Sean has also interned at several management consulting firms and tech companies.
Part 2: The Journey to Consulting
Learn about the day-to-day lives of consultants and how to prepare your consulting application. We are proud to feature graduate students turned consultants from top firms: McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Deloitte Digital Care, and L.E.K.
Katherine is a Consultant based in L.E.K. Consulting’s Boston office. She specializes in the firm’s Life Sciences practice, and covers a broad range of functional areas including corporate strategy and commercial assessment. Katherine received her PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Western University.
Amanda is a consultant with Bain & Company, based in the Toronto office. She has a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Victoria and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley. Amanda has over 10 years of research experience in the academic sector and four years of experience in the academic governance and policy development that she brings to the Bain team.
Peter is a Senior Consultant at Deloitte in the Digital Care practice. He completed his PhD in Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto and was the Director of Professional Relations at GMCA. His work in Digital Care focuses on helping organizations enhance their current digital health capabilities by integrating new technologies to improve patient experiences and outcomes, streamline operational processes, and reduce costs.
Townsend is a Consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, based in the Toronto office. He completed his PhD and M.S. in Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition at Tufts University. Following the completion of his PhD, Townsend joined BCG.
Yodit is an Associate at Mckinsey & Company, based in the Toronto office. She completed her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at Western University with a particular focus in Neuroimmunology. Her work at McKinsey has focused on serving clients in the financial services, oil & gas, as well as pharmaceutical sectors.
